Creating Actions among Children Combining Education, Communication and Energy Knowledge in an Integrated Approach
Kids4Future is a EU project under the Intelligent Energy Europe (IEE) programme. The consortium consists of 10 partners from a good mix of European countries. The project started in January 2007 and will last for three years.

Objectives
The overall project objective is to contribute to a sustainable future. In the short term, Kids4Future aims at increasing awareness, forming positive attitudes, and developing knowledge and understanding regarding energy use and its environmental consequences. In the long term, the objective is to make children qualified to act in a desired manner when making energy-related decisions using information and education as tools.

Coordination of existing material, using one brand and the same visual profile, across Europe will create a sense of unity. The project will provide high quality pedagogic tools and engaging energy activities to make energy more interesting and learning more fun. Children aged 6-12 are the main target group, and they will be reached on their own arenas based on target group knowledge. Kids4Future addresses goals stated in EU's Green paper on energy efficiency "to change perception and encourage action" and recommendations made in the Reflection document on energy education.

Description of the work
At the core of the action are a common platform and one brand. The platform is a universal energy story, which aims to bring in new dimensions and create understanding and enthusiasm for the energy subject, a sustainable future, and the global energy challenges. A strong brand will facilitate recall and strengthen recognition across channels, activities and countries. The platform is supported by pillars corresponding to children's own arenas: school, TV, event and web. This integrated approach is designed to support and create synergies between all activities. National websites will use KidsCorner as a European platform. Partners have chosen pillars, and all elements including the brand name will be adapted to local language and conditions. Close cooperation with school authorities, communication experts as well as other relevant programmes will ensure quality. The role and mandate of the consortium strengthen the potential impacts and the possibility of a broader scale and longer-term implementation.

Expected results
The project will result in harmonized strategies and material for children to be used on their own arenas; in School, on TV, on event and on web. All activities are introduced as parts of one and the same integrated programme. They will promote increased knowledge and understanding of energy use and its consequence by actively involving both children and educators. By launching a suite of activities from a common platform under one brand with the same visual profile the common set of tools will provide higher impacts, provide economies of scale and improved cost effectiveness. Improved co-operation with education and communication experts and harmonization of existing material, combined with target group knowledge, will result in both improved quality and use of material and increased credibility of the sender. Measurable targets have been identified for each project activity, and the results will be documented based on surveys and evaluations.
